To join two pieces of threaded material, use Hex Coupler Nuts. Right-hand threading is used for hex and heavy hex couplers. If a right-left coupler is required, a sleeve nut can be an option.
For information on the appropriate hex coupler for a certain grade of bolt, consult our nut compatibility chart. Galvanized couplers are tapped oversize to account for the corrosion-resistant coating on the bolts since hot-dip galvanising generally adds 2.2 to 5 mils of thickness to the threaded part of a fastener.
When joining two threaded rods or pipes, particularly those of various diameters, coupling nuts, also known as extension nuts, are employed. The most typical uses for coupling nuts include tightening rod assemblies or pushing a finished rod assembly outward. They are often made in a hex form for wrench grip.
Since the two ends are tapped independently, a continuous thread may not always form where they meet. This implies that except by accident, you usually can’t attach the coupling nut to a fastener past the coupling nut’s center line. Just so happens that the internal threads are aligned.
